VIA purchases over 100,000 corrugates shipping boxes annually for the repackaging and shipping of client material. All of VIA's shipping boxes are now composed of 100% recycled or recylable materials. In addition, nonbiodegradable packing material such as plastic and foam has been replaced with sturdy packing paper that contains at least 25% recycled material.

VIA has reduced its carton purchases by 60% over the past year by re-using empty storage boxes as outgoing shipping boxes. In addition, VIA has reduced its landfill garbage by 50% through an aggressive campaign of recycling unusable corrugated boxes, stretch wrap, packing materials, damaged pallets and out-of-date client marketing material. As a result, VIA’s weekly trash collection has dropped from twice per week to once, saving both landfill garbage and the transportation energy of moving the material back and forth.

Other new green initiatives include a pallet exchange program with UPS that eliminates the need to purchase new pallets. UPS now supplies VIA with used pallets that cover 100% of VIA’s requirements.

Empty toner cartridges are now recycled with the manufacturer, and all discarded office paper is recycled as well.
